World Day of Human Milk Donation
The 19th May is celebrated each year as World Day of Human Milk Donation. This year, throughout the world, over 80 milk bank staff and supporters from 36 countries contributed to a ‘Together we can …’ video and photo album that illustrated their hopes and achievements.
More than 150 photos from around the world were included and these emphasised that #EveryDropMakesaDifference and celebrated #HumanMilkDonation. They can be viewed here: Global Alliance of Milk Banks and Associations – HMF Many EMBA supporters from all across Europe and beyond submitted photos.
The Global Alliance of Milk Banks and Associations (GAMBA) is a newly formed Virtual Communication Network. In addition to the video and photo album, the group launched a FaceBook avatar to enable supporters to use their profile photo to publicise the day. Finally a social media toolkit was shared to ensure best use was made of this opportunity to symbolise solidarity and working together across the world in the shared goal of helping babies and families. All of these were made possible as a result of the help and support of the South East Asia Alive and Thrive team and the Human Milk Foundation.
Earlier in May the group co-authored
